About the Canary Foundation
Vision: A world of simple blood tests which identify and isolate cancer at its earliest most curable stage.
Mission: Catalyze the work of early detection and intervention (EDI).
Strategy: Bridge the gap between research and industry by demonstrating an effective ovarian cancer diagnostic test.
The Canary Foundation is setting out to move the needle on one of the most important battles facing humanity - the fight against cancer.
Founded in 2004 by high technology executive Don Listwin, and supported by scientists, doctors and philanthropists, the Canary Foundation is committed to assisting the next generation of cancer fighters on the frontlines of early detection research. The Canary Foundation is collaborating with some of the leading cancer research centers in the world, including the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center (FHCRC) in Seattle; Stanford University Medical Center in Palo Alto, California; and The University of California San Francisco Comprehensive Cancer Center. Canary Foundation is the result of Don Listwin's personal mission to find a way to detect cancer sooner. To date, the foundation has donated over $16 million to researchers.
Named after the "early detection" role canaries once played in alerting coal miners to hazardous fumes, Canary Foundation is the only North American non-profit exclusively devoted to the early detection of cancer. Don Listwin is a networking veteran with more than 25 years of high-level and high-profile industry experience, including senior roles at Cisco Systems and Openwave Systems. A US-based Canadian, Listwin sits on the board of Victoria-based GenoLogics Life Sciences Software, a company that develops software solutions to help researchers manage, integrate, and analyze enormous volumes of data advancing life sciences research and discovery.
