Enter a team in the 2011 Canary Derby
The 6th Annual Canary Derby put on by the Canary Foundation has raised over $520,000 in Victoria since 2006. The Canary Derby brings together the technology and business communities of Victoria and challenges them to build traditional soapbox cars, with teams relying on ingenuity, creativity, and gravity to lead them to victory. The derby aims to raise $85,000 this year, with the net proceeds used to supplement the salaries of three full-time researchers at the Deeley Centre in Victoria dedicated to early ovarian, prostate, pancreatic and lung cancer detection research. The continued success of the derby can lead to the commercialization of early detection cancer tests as well as attract and retain critical research talent in British Columbia. All teams need to participate in the Canary Derby is the $500 entry fee, a soapbox car and the thirst for victory!
*If you are unable to commit to building a soapbox car, there are used ones available for a discounted price. Or, the radio/remote controlled (RC) car portion of the race might be up your alley! *See below NEW – Extreme RC Car Racing
The radio/remote controlled (RC) car section of the Canary Derby is open to new and existing teams and organizations that want to get involved with the Canary Derby. We will provide a challenging and unique track that will make the RC Car driver’s skill the most important variable. All entries are welcome, from the store-bought “Thunder Wheels” cars, to the semi-pro RC aficionado. We encourage both single or multiple entries from one organization, providing the opportunity for some healthy competition. Each team that enters will be required to raise a minimum of $250 toward research for the early detection of cancer.

The success and reach of the Canary Derby continues to grow and contribute to research that will one day yield a test for early cancer detection. With your support, we can positively impact the progress of cancer research in British Columbia!
For the first time this year, the Victoria Canary Derby is introducing this exciting, spectator-friendly event that promises to take the day’s excitement to even higher levels.
This program will be in addition to the soapbox racing and style categories that the Canary Derby currently offers. We look forward to teams using this added event to enrich their style entry, and make the Canary Derby even more exciting for spectators and fans. Lets set a fund raising record this year and work to stop cancer before it stops us.
